All of it negative though. We touched on it earlier when we said that apathy was the real killer. At least loads of negative press keeps reminding neutrals that Villa are supposed to be this "great club". A resurgent Villa would still be a talking point, but only for a season or two at the most.

The club needs to be retooled before we can become resurgent. The irony is that it was Fox's attempts to do just that which has been one of the big factors in this season. The biggest want has to be a group of people who know what they are doing. It's only once we have that that we will deserve to become 'relevant' once more.

I enjoyed yesterday's "Championship discussions". It was the first time that we've chatted from the certain viewpoint that we will be playing division 2 football next season. I hope the club are now engrossed in a similar relevant discussion.

Something like "hands up anybody who knows anything about the Championship? .... up goes Eric Black's hand.

That highlights a problem. Up till now we've been run by a bunch of people who have no experience in the jobs that Randy has given them, now we have a season coming up where only a couple of our footballing people have any knowledge of what is needed. So we're theorising again and are currently under prepared for the task ahead.

The consultants that we've evidently employed to tell us what is wrong with the club, will almost certainly be "bean counters" with no football relevancy. That means we are currently still perpetuating Lerner's cock ups of the last six years.

When's it going to change, and who is going to change it?

Thierry Henri is only saying what we can all see, but it raises a question about the lack of fight .... WHY?

"Fight" has nothing to do with skill or pedigree, it has everything to do with character. Why are we lacking, and how do we put it right?

I think we'd need a magician to wave a magic wand to put some fight into these players. I'd say they have given up but they haven't been up for it since day one. If you couple that attitude with how we are now doomed it's going to be very difficult to get anything from them.

I've been saying for months that we're doomed. I just crave something different, something to get excited over and something to bring hope. Watching XI players who are either shite or can't be bothered going through the motions is none of these things. It's boring. Tomorrow night over 30,000 will be going through the turnstiles and for what? I think for a lot of them it's out of sense of duty rather than any kind of hope!

The PR team must be scraping the bottom of the barrel: http://www.avfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10265~5382125,00.html

They'll get splinters from the bottom of this barrel!

I've just been thinking about the "Hutton" article, and it seems now that Hutton and Westwood are in the team because they're guaranteed to put in a shift. Remi seems to be prepared to overlook the fact that between the two of them they have made a hell of a lot of stupid mistakes which have lost us a high proportion of our games.

So playing them both means that we're guaranteed to lose, but we may at least see a bit of effort. Sad days!

McClaren out and Benitez in at Newcastle. Enough to save them?

It just could be. Newcastle have some decent players and Benitez is a big enough name to get an immediate reaction from them. After "Nice Steve", it might be a short sharp shock for enough of them to make the difference.

I hope they do stay up because that will probably mean Norwich being relegated along with us. That will ease the difficulty (slightly!) of our attempt to rebound from the Championship next season.

Aye - If we go down with Newcastle and Sunderland it is going to be very competitive down there and with our problems those two clubs are better equipped to earn promotion than we are.

They'll both have better managers and players. Then there'll be up to another half a dozen clubs who will have a genuine chance of battling for the top two places. It's going to be tough if we have to compete with the Tyne mafia.

We're now officially relegated according to Remi Garde at least. Remi has come out and told us the stark honest truth at last. It's over .... it's the end!

The end of our 'relegation fight'. What fight? You could have better fight with a kitten than with our players and manager. Fightless and gutless throughout this supposed fight.

Maybe this means Garde will finally give the kids and the players who will be with us next season a chance? I doubt it, mind.
