Jose Mourinho

Post by Chris Harte on Thu Sep 24, 2015 7:14 pm

The guy certainly gets attention, but is he a good guy or a bad guy?

I think his spat with his medical team, in particular Eva Carneiro, hasn't gone away despite her leaving Chelsea.

As I understood things, Carneiro and her male colleague responded to a signal from the referee to treat a head injury to Eden Hazard. In such circumstances surely the medical team are under obligation to act, and so should not have been "downgraded" by their club.

While I recognise that most of the attention has been on the treatment of Carneiro (it now seems that a national newspaper has a video of Mourinho of being abusive to her in Portuguese) I have to wonder what had happened to her male colleague.

The whole thing smacks of Mourinho throwing his toys out of the pram because his team were being held by Swansea.

I think Mourinho divides people, he's the marmite manager. I actually used to like him. He was the master of playing the pantomime villain and wound up rivals like Wenger and Ferguson a treat. Beneath that was a very good manager and his supreme talent was to attract all the attention to himself and keep the pressure off his players. Even here, focus has been taken away from their poor start and onto this supposed spat.

Have to admit though I've started to go off him. He seems to have became even more petulant and childish in recent years and this dispute with the doctor is the low point in that.

I feel like, if Spitting Image was still on, people would be all, "Okay Mourinho is basically morphing into his Spitting Image character"

His interview today was embarrassingly childish.

No one is talking about how many points they have dropped though.

His comments on Wenger were hilarious.

Another bad result today for him losing at home to Southampton.

Can we put the final nail in his coffin? Will he last until then?

Mourinho is probably down on his knees thanking the Lord that he has two weeks off before he receives the divine gift of playing Villa. Three points to Mourinho and 14 days to savour the prospect.

Mourinho is one of the best managers in the world. I don't think his strength is in the same areas as Wenger and Van Gaal. He's not an out and out coach, he's more of a consummate organiser and man motivator.

Is there any truth in the belief that his style of management is limited to two top seasons, then move on?

I would give him time because now he's a wounded animal, and I would love to see how he reacts.

He turned up at his interview after the game to say nothing, other than to eventually comment that the fans weren't stupid.

I think he started to believe that he was "Chelsea" and that if the the team won it was down to him, and if they lost it was down to the players.

If you call yourself "the special one" then you have to be infallible, and Mourinho isn't. It's a clear case of a man tripping over his own inflated ego.

A few weeks ago I was listening to a pundit talk about them and think he nailed it when he explained why they had collapsed. Mourinho's motivational style is to blame the players and this works to a point as they will react to prove the manager wrong. The problem then is that eventually after a few seasons they always get sick of it and you no longer get that reaction. You just get players getting gradually more and more unhappy.

When players stop playing for the manager there is only one outcome.
