https://www.expressandstar.com/sport/football/aston-villa/2017/07/18/jordan-veretout-set-to-leave-aston-villa-for-st-etienne/

Our best midfielder by a distance and we can't wait to sell him. He's good on the ball, his movement is non stop and effective and he is the only assister that we currently have on our books .... no wonder we're getting rid of him, that kind of good football won't fit in at AVFC!

Another player at the end of his career finds a home at Villa!

I guess he and Jedinak will share the matches sitting in front of the defence.

He's a gutsy hard working oldie, but how will this help our midfield creativity?

Hey how are u? I Hope even will be any transfers, the most important its the result!! it always only matters the result. like for example i am now taking genotropin but what it actually matters is what the results would be after finishing with it? it all the results only matters... so hopefully we're going to get a good result.

Welcome Forch. You're right about the result being the most important thing.

Whelan has signed. I wish him all the best at Villa. We will benefit from his graft and attitude. I just hope his legs hold out.

In other news I'm just off to do a few stretches .... I'm only 68, and I've still got a pair of boots with the original metal toecaps and nailed leather studs if you're reading this Steve! Very Happy

Welcome Forch.

Looking like Samba will be in (after what must be the longest trial in world football) if we can offload one or both of Elphick and Richards.

This is interesting and indicates a concerted effort to shift players out. I notice Richards isn't on the "get rid" list and that has to be down to the sheer size of his wage packet and the realisation that it prevents him leaving. He would be a fool to leave unless he's paid off handsomely.

Looking like Hutton is on the way out to Sheffield Wednesday. VB will be delighted.

Hutton was his usual wasteful self just now, but Elmo more than made up for it with some stunning work and supply from the right hand side.

I'm disappointed with this news, but I guess it was inevitable. He had a touch of class about him, but it was stifled by his early Villa experience. Bon Voyage JV.

He's one of those players we tend to have quite a few of where I say "well I like him, but he never did anything wearing our shirt".

See also Gil, Carles. Who I genuinely have no idea whether he is still on the books or not.

http://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/aston-villa-transfers-nathan-baker-13398095

Nathan is one of my favourite Villa players. He's a local lad and I've watched him play at all levels for Villa since he was 16.

I know he's injury prone, but a lot of that is down to sheer bravery. I can see what Bruce is shaping to do, but if we have to move Baker out, then a recallable loan would be my favoured option. Who knows how much mileage we're going to get out of Terry and Samba before they are missing through injury?

I know that Bree and De Laet can cover CB at a pinch, but they're not commanding CB's and at best it would be making do. With Elphick also almost certainly going, we're taking a risk in my opinion. If Bruce is thinking of using Richards as cover then it will cost us points.

I've copied an article by Jon Fear of Vital Villa.

I hope he won't mind me sharing his opinion on here. I have to say that I share his dismay totally. Baker is a Villan heart and soul, and injuries permitted he has years ahead of him. I agree with the article's concern that this is short termism gone mad!

I am one of Baker's biggest fans so I am somewhat unhappy about the news as well. My dreams of an uncompromising partnership of Baker and Samba have been shattered. The likes of Terry and Samba also could have aided his development, he was only 26 which is young in centre half terms.
