Aston Villa V Sheffield Wednesday: Saturday 11th March 15:00

Post by Sandie on Thu Mar 09, 2017 7:38 pm

Can we return to winning ways, do we think? We're back at home but playing another decent side. A clue, I have not.

If we don't decide to sit back and invite them to play in the space between the halfway line and our penalty area, we have a chance.
If we don't fill and control that space we remain an accident waiting to happen.

I don't have any worries about the performance levels. It's getting our tactics and shape on the pitch right that will win or lose the game for us. If we persist in condensing our midfield into an eight man defence, then Sheff Wed will get enough chances to pressure us into giving them something.
We have to start owning the middle of the park (especially at home), if we sit deep for long periods, then we shouldn't be surprised if Forestieri and co fill their boots!

I'm being as confident as I can be and am going for a draw today.

Great win for us today in the face of adversity with so many injuries. Kodja's goal tally is very impressive, such a shame we were without him during January.

I shall have to do the same every match now.

My son tells me we couldn't put two passes together again today and that included a long spell against ten men, but we won. I'll take that for now.

I also missed today's game. If the result is anything to do by I should also do that more often.

There were periods where we couldn't string two passes together. We also had some luck - a penalty claim by Wednesday was waived away at 1-0, and I'm sure (but will have to watch it back) the Kodjia's 2nd was offside. But y'know what? We've had some horrendous luck at times down the years so I'll take that.

I'm not complaining Chris. You're right about their penalty claim (1 watched the highlights), and it's about time the luck went our way. I would love us to start playing some decent football though.

I think our injuries are a big problem for the moment. Hopefully there will be a flurry of players returning to fitness before the Wigan game.

Injuries are a huge concern in terms of numbers. Soft tissue injuries and warm up strains need to be addressed. It's probably bad luck, but a little extra sports science application could help.

We certainly seem to get more injuries than most and that's not just this season.
