Aston Villa V Preston: Saturday 21st January 15:00

Post by Sandie on Thu Jan 19, 2017 8:56 pm

A difficult one this, a few ex-Villa in their ranks so there's the risk of the law of the ex coming into play.

I'm refraining from making any predictions until I know if any last minute additions will be in place.

This will have an impact on the result. Baker has become a key player for us.
Preston are on a roll at the moment, but our home record should help us stop the rot. I'm going for a scruffy win, if we can only put the ball in the net!
The presence of one or two new players being paraded before the match should give us an added lift.

We've lost our last three games, so this has to be a bounce back game. Some of our players have too much experience of losing runs and it quickly becomes an expectation. Lansbury's presence should make a difference.

Lansbury and Green start but so do Gabby and Westwood. FFS!

Westwood ruins the team sheet yet again .... Bruce has to learn!

We're still lightweight in terms of a combative midfield.

I see we're rumoured to be interested in Ashley Barnes and even Alex Bruce (gulp) .... journeymen! We have too many average or less than average players as evidenced by our team selection today.

We're not on our usual radio channel today (Radio WM), so I'll have to ferret around and find some sort of coverage.

Just picking up from bits and pieces on the net, seems we've started reasonably well, Green had a chance form a Gabby cross and then Gabby had a shot blocked from a Lansbury cross.

1-0 Villa! Adomah after Grealish lifted it to Gabby who collided with a Preston player and Adomah put the ball into an empty net .... so I gather from texts.

Preston will have to open up a bit now and come at us. Can we take advantage of that and score a rare second goal?

He might have had a hand in it .... or did his considerable frame do the job?
