Brighton V Aston Villa: Friday 18th November 19:45

Post by Sandie on Mon Nov 14, 2016 6:44 pm

The international ennui will be over soon and, for us, sooner than most as we have a Friday night game against high-flying Brighton.

I think this is obviously by far the biggest test of the Bruce era as we will be facing the second placed team in the league, a team who have won their last 4 and are unbeaten in their last 10 league outings. If that wasn't fearsome enough they also have the best defensive record in the Championship and recently stuck 5 past Norwich who are another team one would expect to be there or thereabouts come the close of the season in May. We, on the other hand, have started grinding out results without really needing to play especially well. So will Brighton's consistent form or our newfound steeliness prevail under the floodlights?

Sadly, I can't see us winning this one. 2-1 to Brighton.

We have to beat them if we want to catch them for automatic promotion. I'm going for a positive win even though they will have a lot more possession than us.

I can't wait either. I hate international breaks. So much so I'm glad of a Friday night game for once as it means less of a wait!

I shall have to get the beers chilling for this one! On paper we have the better individual players, however Brighton play really well as a team. Hughton has them really well organised. I'm looking forward to Villa showing us that we've turned the corner, with a tight team performance tonight. If we can do that, then a couple of moments of class from our front men can bring home three points.

Under Steve Bruce's Stewardship, villa fans can now rightly look forward to every game and be reasonably optimistic for positive results. Its the first time since the mon era that I am confident that we are going into games with a Gameplan and that the players are going out on the pitch with a degree of confidence and clarity on what their job is within in the side. I don't expect us to lose tonight, imagine thinking that 2 months ago!

Is it still the case that Jedinak can't play in this one? Who should replace him? Westwood?

That's good news then, I think we'd have had a hell of a selection issue if he wasn't!

If RDM had picked this team I would have been furious! I don't agree with Bruce's selection (by a country mile) but he's earned the right to do his own thing. I fear the worst though!
