Just when I was thinking to myself how well he was playing too.

I think O'Neill was guilty of instructing his team to try and protect a 1-0 scoreline (I call it the Villa disease .... if we ever lead a match Very Happy ). If you're the better team in the first half, then go out and be the better team in the second half. Do not deliberately sit back and concede ground trying to protect a fragile lead. It puts huge pressure on your defence and there's no need for it.

This football manager lark is simple when you're sat at home in your armchair.

It might just have been something the players did subconsciously regardless of what the manager told them. It seemed like our players were doing that a lot under Sherwood and Garde last season. They might have done it under Black too but I had all but stopped paying attention by that point.

Clark is getting some stick this morning, but I thought he was unlucky. He dealt with one of the games big players very well the rest of the time.

I agree, the own goal aside, he played very well. It's easy to criticise based on slow motion replays but in the actual split second I'm not sure what else could have happened.

It's a shame that the haters have another anti Clark weapon to brandish.

It will be interesting to see what happens with regard to this "suspended disqualification". The Russian thugs are an organised gang who aren't there for the football. I would be amazed if they stopped fighting because of this.

If the Russian team is sent home, what will be the repercussions for the 2018 world cup on their home soil?

I've already seen a petition going round social media asking them to be stripped of it. Whatever happens, cynical me thinks they'll never lose the tournament. I'm sure it will be fun to have the world cup in a hotbed of racism and hooliganism.

The UEFA suspended ban only applies to fighting in the stadium during the match. That leaves them with their usual public battlegrounds to fight on without fear of disqualification.

Hart was very poor there. Bale's free-kick went straight down the middle.

Hart is a poser, he deliberately delays his dive so that he can make a photo opportunity save at full stretch. I've watched him do it many times, and this time he got caught out. Plonker! Forster should be our keeper.

When Hodgson finally puts on the right players we win. That was nervy, in a game that we should have won at a canter.
