Good to be rid of Riley and this chap might actually know what he's doing. The fact he's worked with RDM before is also positive as it means they should hopefully strike up a good working relationship rather than an adversarial one.

I agree, six years at Southampton during a time when we've been in awe of the quality of their signings, speaks volumes for his research skills.

The board has had it's members accepted by the FL. One name that I had to look up was Andrew Oblensky. He was involved with Samuelson in the Reading debacle. He was also until recently (and may still be) CEO of First Bank Montenegro, who got into trouble for "improper reporting" last year and had a special audit imposed. I think he also owns a fish smoking business in Devon.

We do pick them don't we!

At least they passed the test, I guess.

I'm probably putting two and two together here and coming up with a number a long way from 4 but could this be related to our search for a technical director? Whilst we are a long way behind Tottenham on the pitch we would be offering a bigger role and he played for RDM at MK Dons.

The media rumours are that Leicester want Mitchell to replace Walsh, but regardless of this Mitchell is required to work "a significant portion of his six month notice period".

Didn't Dr T say that a Technical Director would be appointed by the time the season kicked off?

Steve Round (formally of Everton amongst others so obvious links to Wyness) was at VP yesterday and now rumoured as a director of football....thoughts? (Was in a paper this morning, I forget which one, but know he was at VP with Wyness)

Seems like an odd choice to me if there's any truth to it. Whilst I have no doubt he's a fine coach does he really have the kind of technical experience we'd require for this kind of (I'd assume) largely strategic role?

I suppose he can't be any more useless than Henrik Almstadt, at least.

It may be that other qualified targets have turned us down. If this is the case perhaps the TD's job has been re defined.

His job will be to improve Villa’s dealings in the transfer market.

The manager will still have the final say on all incomings, but it will be Round who dedicates a large chunk of his time towards improving the long-term recruitment strategy at the club.

But he's worked as a coach (who presumably had little involvement in transfer dealings) so what qualifies him to do this better than the manager or even someone like Steve Clark who has been a manager in his own right too?

I've thought about this for a short while, and my current thoughts are as follows.

1) He's worked with Wyness.

2) He's intelligent and knowledgeable about the game, and has completed a business management qualification recently.

3) If someone like Comolli were to be appointed, he would expect to be in charge of all football related matters. Round would be able to work as a seamless extension of the football management team. He and Di Matteo could work on an equal footing on the two different sides of football management.

4 RDM) Control of the day to day team, coaching, selection etc.

5)SR) Control over all non day to day team related business including scouting, Academy, Sports Science etc.

It might work because egos would be less likely to get in the way of a 'Dr T, Wyness, Di Matteo, Round' quadrilateral.
