Having been far from keen on RDM in the build up I'm suddenly feeling very positive about him now we're on the verge of it.

I think the partnership possibly makes RDM/SC a greater force than the sum of two parts .... mathematically speaking.

On their own they may fail, together they can be the real deal.

I'm just allowing myself a small celebration this early evening. I've poured myself a large glass of Philippe De Rothschild Mouton Cadet, and I'm listening to Villa's own Nigel Kennedy's interpretation of Vivaldi's Four Seasons.

I really think AVFC are on the road to recovery.

The first steps are being taken on Aston Villa's road to recover.

The Brum Mail have carried out some exhaustive research* on a possibly member of RDM's backroom staff: http://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/who-massimiliano-marchesi-quick-guide-11420040

*They looked at his website and then described the job of a fitness coach.

We said that about the last fitness coach. All that then seemed to happen was that Flabby seemingly trained when he wanted. Still, the BBC piece summed up part of the rumoured new coaching staff's brief as getting rid of unwanted high earners with long deals. If that doesn't describe Gabby I don't know what does.

I notice that Tony Parks was told he was having his contract terminated last Thursday. He was probably the last of the old first team coaching staff. The decks are totally clear on the management side, now we have to be equally ruthless with some of our senior players. The only way to cure this cancer is to cut it out!

We really are clearing the decks! I suppose sentiment doesn't have a part to play when it comes to expenditure.

It seems we will have a handful of key figures, rather than a plethora of nondescript individuals and positions.

This all used to be part of "player management" but we probably need a more focussed approach.

I'm nervously awaiting the announcement of Steve Clarke as Di Matteo's assistant. This is key to whether RDM succeeds or fails in my opinion. Roberto is good at the technical stuff, and should be popular with the players, but he needs the stoic strength of Clark to complete the 'Manager' that confronts the dressing room. He also needs SC's considerable experience in organising defences.

On their own neither RDM or SC is the complete article .... together they could be the total package that Villa have needed for a long time.

Let's have confirmation Villa!

I agree with that. As I said yesterday, those two will make a decent pairing IMO.
