Aston Villa V Arsenal: Sunday 13th December at 1:30PM

Post by Sandie on Tue Dec 08, 2015 6:49 pm

Another weekend another game comes and this weekend we must face Arsenal at Villa Park as we continue our search for our first home league win in over six months.

Arsenal require no introduction, they are title challengers and so on the surface of it present a menacing proposition in our current form particularly on our own turf. That said, if Garde is well versed and knowledgeable about Arsenal and Wenger's way he might have an idea on what their strengths and weaknesses are and have ideas on how to beat them. It's also worth pointing out that their last two away outings have been a draw at Norwich and a loss at West Brom so they are far from invincible on the road.

So what do we expect to happen on Sunday?

God knows why but I have a feeling we're going to win this.

1-0 win with Gestede scoring.

I've looked at this for a while and a Villa win is not getting any more believable. Very Happy

By the law of averages we have to pick up a home win some time...

Laughing I also think this win will happen when people least suspect. Like this weekend...

Arsenal must be feeling good after their win last night, maybe they'll be a bit more laid back against us. They aren't the toughest team mentally (that's rich coming from a Villa supporter).

Richards is supposed still a doubt with his knee injury. Clark is back from suspension so with him back and Richards possibly out who's going to play with Okore? Lescott was decent against Southampton and could reasonably expect to retain his place but Clark might be brought straight back in. To be honest, I'd stick with Lescott. Both have errors in them.

I'd stick with Lescott. That last performance of Clark's deserves a couple of matches on the bench. It was awful.

I think it's a question of sticking with one until they drop a bollock, Lescott has earned a place and can keep it until he lets us down.

If we set up to defend against Arsenal .... we lose. If we try to contain then .... we lose. If we do what we've been doing since Remi took charge, then we'll probably lose.

So the season starts on Sunday, and here's a novel idea .... we set up in a 4-4-2 formation with two out and out wingers and two strikers. We play with two mobile and supportive central midfielders, and we play with two FULL BACKS. No overlapping "are you listening at the back there Mr Hutton?" Defending to be done by a back FOUR at all times.

We may still lose, but at least we'll have had a bloody good go at getting three points!

I think there's nothing to lose by trying something different in this one though I do wonder whether if he tries to change things and we take a hammering it might put him off.

I think that losing and drawing games are now off the agenda. Draws will only come back into the equation if we get a number of wins first. Anything else is relegation.

Agreed. Getting something against Arsenal, however it comes, would set us up nicely for a run against Newcastle, West Ham, Norwich, Sunderland and Palace. That's as pleasant run of fixtures as we're going to get in this league and a run of wins will be the difference between us coming back into the race for safety and being dead and buried.
